The short version

What to know before you act

  • A private listing and a dealer offer serve different needs. Check which one you are starting.
  • Compare the money you will keep, the time involved and the conditions attached to each offer.
  • On Drive & Ride Direct, owners and buyers communicate directly and arrange their own sale.

Three routes that can look similar

A “sell my car” button can lead to very different services. Autotrader offers dealer advertising products, while KBB’s Instant Cash Offer connects sellers with participating dealers, subject to inspection.[1][2]

Follow the business model

Dealer advertising and vehicle-buying services are established business models.[1][2] Their existence does not prove that a company manipulates prices or blocks private sales.

  • Look for the name of the actual buyer or seller—not just the website brand.
  • Read the contact and data-sharing choices before submitting your details.
  • Check whether an estimate is a purchase offer, and what could change it.

Compare the options before committing

  • Seller: collect written offers and compare them with similar private listings. Asking prices are not completed sales.
  • Seller: allow for preparation, appointments, any loan payoff and the time you have to sell.
  • Buyer: compare the total cost, condition and written terms. A low monthly payment can hide a longer or more expensive loan.[3]
  • Buyer: arrange your own inspection. A history report does not replace it.[3]

Where Drive & Ride Direct fits

We focus on owner-to-owner sales: stock vehicles, modified builds and e-bikes. The owner supplies the details, the buyer asks questions, and both parties agree on the price and handover.

We do not buy the vehicle, arrange financing or hold the payment.

Frequently asked questions

Are dealer offers always a bad deal?

No. Speed, collection and an established process may be worth a lower price to you. Compare the final proceeds and written conditions.

Does direct contact require a public phone number?

No. You can use in-app messaging and decide whether to offer phone contact.
